storytelling and changemaking
Alex uses imagination and conversation to connect through story.
Trained as a journalist, he cut his teeth in the studios of community radio stations like SYN and Triple RRR before embracing the freer form of podcasting—in the days before every buddy with a beer got their hands on a Rode mic. Eventually he found himself diving into national stories inside the walls of the ABC.
After this, Alex embarked on his greatest chapter (so far), Session, where he helped people use technology to connect and chat in times of peace and conflict.
Over his years, he has heard the stories of families from Fiji moving to country Victoria to live their kids’ sporting dreams, the queer communities evacuating their friends from Russia, and the women’s groups leading resistance in Rakhine.
Alex is always ready for a yarn, to listen to a story, and to make sure it is heard.
Session
Session is a messaging app which provides radical privacy and security. Across 7 years of service to the project, Alex co-designed Session’s branding and story, identified its key community stakeholders, and worked closely with those community members to identify their unique contextual challenges. Alex is currently the President of the Session Technology Foundation.
Chainflip
Chainflip is a cross-chain swapping platform which offers trustless, decentralized, and native token swaps. Alex led messaging and world-building during Chainflip’s early stages, and now serves as a member of the Crosschain Association.
ABC
Alex worked as producer at ABC Radio National, developing long-form audio stories for Australian audiences. Primarily working on Drive, he specialised in technology, politics, and international affairs.
